    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Affordable housing, voter access and a livable climate.I support legislation that prevents property taxes from rising above an affordable percentage of income for seniors, renters,
and workers with modest or middle incomes. I support measures to increase voter access to the ballot box along with policies that will safeguard our environment such as clean energy projects and alternative fuel sources.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

LGBTQ2S+ rights are basic Human Rights and they deserve the same recognition and protections as do ALL persons regardless of how one identifies or their sexual orientation. The legislature should not be trampling one's right to privacy by inserting themselves into anothers very personal and private medical care decisions with their medical providers- period.

    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

I hear the most about affordable housing, the high cost of living, and climate change. I will support legislation that adjusts our property taxes so that young people are not priced out of renting or owning a home. The legislature should take into account our right to a clean and healthful environment and secures this right for future generations.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

I will speak out and vote against anything that legislates away the rights of LGBTQ+ Montanans. I have always advocated for privacy and the full spectrum of healthcare options in Montana. The legislature should not determine what procedures or medications Montana doctors can provide or can be covered by insurance. I support adding gender identity and expression and sexual orientation to the Montana Human Rights Act.

    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Medicaid Expansion. I would vote to make it permanent. Education funding and high rents are also important problems that must be addressed by fixing the education funding formula and building more affordable housing and addressing property taxes, which affect rents.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Young Montanans are often shut out of home ownership and the ability to build up savings and wealth for our families and future generations, with wages for available jobs falling far behind the costs of living in Montana. If elected, I would support ways to incentivize our youth to stay in Montana, bringing wages up, expanding access to affordable healthcare, housing, quality public education and vocational training.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

If elected, I would work with legislators to try and reverse the harmful policies that were passed last session in regards to trans citizens and support any policies that further protect the LGBTQ2S+ from discrimination, bullying and government overreach into their personal and medical decisions.

    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Education is the most pressing, as it primes them to compete in the economy.

I will establish a task force including state and education officials. Our mission, to find sources of funding to support improving education. E.g., the state can maximize use of the Marijuana tax to improve public education. We will create efficiencies with the other funding areas, we simply have to be creative and effective with that process.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

Legislation defining “sex” and other personal/private elements of Montanans are unacceptable.

The legislature of 2023 stepped on the rights of some of our most vulnerable citizens while providing absolutely nothing to the greater benefit of other Montanans. These anti-LGBTQ bills only contribute to the already burgeoning problems of mental health and must be overturned.

    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Climate change = most pressing issue. Impacts are being felt as I write this - poor air quality, low visibility due to excessive forest fire smoke, lack of rain, and excessive temperatures. I would advocate for policies that would mitigate & avoid further climate change. Leading by example, I live in a "Living Building" and as a school board trustee in Billings Public Schools, I led the implementation of adding solar panels to our schools.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

While access to affordable health care including reproductive health care and mental health care may not be as urgent as other issues, it is the issue that I as a retired physician am best prepared to address. To that end, I will support the reauthorization of Medicaid expansion without a sunset provision. I will work for full funding of mental health care. I will oppose restrictions on reproductive care.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

Of all the onerous anti-LGBTQ2S+ laws passed by the 2023 legislature, the most regrettable one was SB 458 which deprives LGBTQ2S+ citizens of the basic human rights guaranteed in our US and Montana constitutions by attempting to legislate LGBTQ2S+ individuals out of existence. I would support efforts to reverse that legislation and support legislation that guarantees all individuals safety, respect and human rights.

    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

The cost of living crisis affects all Montanans, but hitting young Montanans the hardest. The largest part of this crisis that the legislature can directly work on is the recent property tax hike, which impacts all Montanans, homeowners (who pay directly), and renters (whose landlords have increased rent). If elected I will work to fix the property tax mess and work to make Montana affordable for Montanans again.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

The 2023 legislative session’s track record on almost all issues, but especially those impacting our LGBTQ2S+ community, were disgraceful. I don’t accept that Montanans want the government to be making our healthcare decisions for us, and will reject any attempts to take our rights away from us. I would work with other legislators to keep the government from attacking LGBTQ2S+ community, and promote our Constitutional right to personal privacy.

    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Affordable Housing. Some things that might be implemented include tax incentives for developers, builders, and landlords that truly build and rent at affordable prices. We could reallocate some of our lodging tax revenue into rental subsidizing programs for lower income individuals, and we must do something about the property tax situation that has occurred within the state, that certainly made affordable housing harder to obtain.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

Legislators are empowered to pass bills that supposedly make for a better state, and to benefit those that live in the state. However, as a legislator we also have to make sure that certain bills are not passed. Especially when targeting a specific group of people in a negative way. We must preserve our rights to be who we are, and the right to freedoms. We do not need the government to tell us how we should we should be, feel, and believe.

    Overtaxation.

    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Affordable housing, affordable health care (including mental health care and reproductive health care). I brought several bills to increase access to mental health care. I support incentives for developers who develop truly affordable housing. And I support reducing residential property taxes, which results in lower rents.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

I opposed all of those bills and spoke against several on the House floor. I would seek to reinstate protections for LGBTQ2S+ to Montana's Human Rights Act. Most important is to listen to members of these communities to address their concerns in ways that work for them.

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Based on my conversations with young Montanans one of their top issues is Attainable Housing. For Attainable Housing, I would like to lift restrictions placed by the current legislature on local governments to allow them additional tools to combat affordable housing, like local option taxes on goods and services tourists use and zoning changes to allow for density.

Affordability. So many young Montanans can not afford a mortgage across Montana, and rent prices are sky high. Renter rights are often challenging and often non-existent...which could result in loss of housing on very short notice. I want to work to ensure ALL Montanans can afford to live, work, and play in Bozeman, or whatever community they call home.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

As a parent, these bills that targeted the rights and livelihood of my friends and neighbors in the LGBTQ2S+ community were infuriating. I will FIGHT to rollback these ridiculous bills passed, and protect Montana's constitution that ensures privacy and rights for all Montanans.

    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Housing affordability and availability. I would push for policy incentivizing developers to build more quality, affordable housing units, including apartments, multi-family units, and single-family homes. Those of us who want to build our lives here need places to live that are safe, well-built, and economical. Housing is a human right.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

I would oppose all bills that target the LGBTQ2S+ community. I find it reprehensible that people who continually talk about mental health do not understand that legally denying people the ability to be themselves is exacerbating the mental health crisis. It is also cruel. We all deserve to be treated fairly, with dignity and allowed to be ourselves, and I would support any legislation that supports those ideals.

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Short term: Cost of living, especially related to housing. I'd work to impact taxation so as to help people who are struggling, i.e., renters for instance. I'd work to raise taxes on 2nd-home owners. Long term: Climate change. I'd work to disempower Northwestern Energy. This includes getting rid of the gerrymander of PSC districts, so as to build meaningful representation, which would lead to lower prices and more clean energy.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

Bills like these are horrendous. The real issue here is bullying. No one should be targeted and attacked for their identities. As a retired elementary teacher, it appalls me that our leaders would act this way. Given the current Republican legislative dominance, I would frame the issue around privacy and freedom. I do not have specific policy recommendations yet, but I am very much a voice for anyone marginalized. Always have been.

Affordability. We need to invest in genuine affordable hosuing directed at the workforce. Government intervention is required. Tools exist, like social hoising (Seattle & Montgomery County). To start, we need to update the housing statute, which was written in 1935

Wages and Housing are huge issues for young Montanans. They are tightly connected and it will take working on both issues to solve the problem. Wages have fallen behind and housing prices have soared. I think corporate ownership of residential housing is a problem that removes single family and multi family housing from the market. Finding ways for young Montanans to keep more of their paychecks through a more progressive tax structure.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

I would be very supportive of policy akin to the Equality Act at the federal level. Policy that provides protections for LGBTQ2S+ citizens with regard to employment, housing, medical care, education access, etc. Every citizen in the U.S. regardless of how they perceive themselves or how others perceive them deserve all of the same rights and protections. We all deserve to feel safe in our own communities and to get ahead in life.

    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Affordability, housing & climate change. I propose increasing housing for renters and working families via tax incentives, construction grants, mandating 15% affordable units + expanding LIHTC, Down Payment Assistance, Housing Choice Vouchers, and emergency rental assistance. On climate I propose 1) protecting public lands and 2) as someone raised in a trade union family, a just transition to clean energy via retraining and redeployment.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

    1. Anti-discrimination laws to protect LGBTQ2S+ rights, similar to the Equality Act.
    2. Transgender Protections to ensure access to healthcare, sports, and protection from discrimination.
    3. Partner with groups like the MT Human Rights Network and ACLU to amplify their efforts in protecting LGBTQ2S+ rights.
    4. Advocate for robust enforcement of existing laws and ensure state agencies have the necessary resources to enforce.

    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Young Montanans lack the same promise of economic opportunity as their parents and grand-parents once enjoyed. The issues are many: a show-stopping housing/affordability crisis; unabated spikes in food and basic necessities; oppressive student loan debt; and the lack of livable wages. I support incentivizing housing and job creation, and providing working Montanans with livable wages and accessibility to affordable, quality rental housing.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

I will continue to fight against discrimination, and for the dignity, inclusion and rights of the LGBTQ2S+ community in Montana. I oppose all attacks on the rights and freedoms of Montana citizens as protected by our state constitution and independent judiciary -- for all citizens to freely live their lives, to be themselves, to love whom they choose to love -- without the interference of an overbearing government.

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

Biggest problem facing young people in Montana is a housing crisis and health care. I hope to support and plan good legislation that expands housing in much needed areas and reign back all the protections for landlords that were implemented in 2023.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

The attacks on the community are unwarranted and frankly gross abuse of power and control. I'll stand up for and push any legislation protecting and expanding the rights and freedoms of the community. I stood up and spoke against bills that were directly meant to harm and impact on minority segment of our society and will continue to do so.

Housing - I am fearful that my own children won't be able to afford to purchase a home here. This is not a partisan issue & it is a crisis right now. We cannot recruit and retain workers of any kind if we don't have the ability to provide affordable housing. We need to bring all ideas forward and collaborate to find some workable solutions. I believe the greatest threat to democracy in Montana are far right legislators attempting to limit citizen's rights to privacy. Public school districts across Montana are facing growing budget deficits while doing their best to support and educate our children. What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

I believe outrageous housing costs are the most pressing issue facing young Montanans. How will these generations ever begin to "build wealth" if they can't start by owning their own home? When elected, I will advocate for solutions, i.e. matching State funds to Federal Housing Trust Fund dollars received; creating subsidies for down payments; offering incentives to developers in the form of tax credits to build affordable housing.

I still carry those values and will strongly advocate for protections for LGBTQ+ Montanans in areas, i.e. healthcare, employment, housing, public accommodations, credit, education, etc. This is one of the reasons I felt compelled to run for a House seat after I saw what the 2023 Legislature did to silence one of their own members.

    Yes

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

It is becoming too expensive for many young people/families to live in Montana. Many people find they need to leave and find jobs elsewhere. Having young people leave our state due to high cost of living is bad for the future of Montana. If elected I hope to continue working on affordable housing, renter protections, lower property taxes, and investment in infrastructure such as high-speed internet and our public schools.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

We can start by repealing bad bills that target and discriminate against LGBTQ2S+ Montanans. These bills are unconstitutional and violate the freedom of our citizens. We also need to prevent more discriminatory bills from going through. All people in Montana must be treated equally under the law and with respect.

Housing. Young people cannot afford most homes or rent in Montana To address this, Streamline the construction permitting process so that building are reduced and first time home buyers can afford housing. This would also open up more affordable apartments.

Housing (rent, home price, and property tax). I would seek to establish a tenants' bill of rights codifying protections for renters (including right to counsel), establish a property tax circuit breaker to limit property tax for people on fixed incomes, and look at zoning policy changes to allow for more housing to be built.

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

The most pressing issues facing young Montanans today are both economic and environmental. The next generation of voters understand they may not be able to afford to live in the state with the current housing shortage and skyrocketing home values, and are increasingly aware of detrimental effects of climate change. Young voters are concerned about the long-term sustainability of these issues and its impact on the their ability to live here.

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

There are many critical issues. In my mind, Climate Change is the most pressing. If we do not address this, the other issues will fade to the background. I will vote and advocate for all bills that protect our environment and diminish greenhouse gas emissions. I will continue to speak professionally and personally about ways to protect our environment. I will listen to young voters' solutions as they will inherit this situation.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?

I have spoken and written about the fact that the government has NO business in healthcare offices. The decisions that patients and parents make are careful, thoughtful, extremely personal. I will fight any policy that impinges on the LGBTQ2S+ community. I will work for policies that ensure that gender-affirming care is recognized as healthcare.

What do you consider to be the most pressing issue facing young Montanans? If elected, how would you address this issue?

I believe the most pressing issue facing young Montanans right now is affordability – housing, tuition, childcare, and health care are all more expensive than ever, and many young Montanans are making tough choices about whether to stay in the state or not. We must address the affordability crisis through investing in programs that support young Montanans in building a future in the state.

During the 2023 legislative session, bills were passed that directly target the safety and livelihood of members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. If elected, what policies, if any, would you advocate for the rights of LGBTQ2S+ Montanans?
